I keep reading about how managers want to surveil they're remote employees, with screenshots, real-time screen access, or even cameras in their houses. This feels to me like a very American thing. I haven't heard of a single manager in Sweden even suggesting that they'd *want* to do this.
Is this an American thing? And if so, why are American managers like that?
#e2ee coming to Facebook Messenger. It sounds like it’s on by default for one-to-one sessions, and opt-in for group sessions.a
QT AlecMuffett: Yay.
> End-to-end encrypted voice & video calls are now rolling out on Messenger, and we're introducing opt-in end-to-end encryption for group chats & group audio & video calls too. I'm proud that we continue to extend encryption across more services.
Over the years, we’ve heard many arguments why what we’re trying to do is impossible.Rather than deter us, we took them as challenges! In 2020 we became profitable, proving it IS possible to run a successful business that is kinder to people & planet. 👉 https://bit.ly/3dnTkrY

Wait, “personal … information” is “exempt from data protection law”?!
I’m not sure that’s quite the right reading of Art 2(2)(a) U.K. #GDPR… :)

Thank you all. I will continue to provide updates.

If you are willing to adopt #FreeSoftware rationally, beyond the mere feeling of freedom, you would need to make sure if firmware is free at first, because the firmware is the basis, and applications on that cannot be proven to be free otherwise.
Caring about #FOSS applications are just not enough. Non-free firmware can disrupt the freedom of the applications from the ground, which could make it pointless to install free software.
Installed #trisquel for my laptop, and soon found wi-fi driver was not available because it was closed source. Buying USB adapter on free firmware at ThinkPenguin.
Pegasus spyware group blacklisted by the US government
Centralised messenger Signal has just announced that they are making part of their server software closed source. They claim it is to fight spam, but by using closed source they make it impossible for outsiders to verify the truth. This is worrying.
We really, really need a fully open, decentralised alternative to Signal.
There are several alternatives being developed, please support them:
Today, we're very happy to announce a new discussion and user support platform: the Tor Forum.
